And while the slow reveal throughout the story was very clever, it didn't give the same feeling of emotional payoff at the end as some of the other stories. Best dream (or dreamlike sequence) I've read. I'd read it again and show to others as a demonstration, too. There.
I'm not used to dream sequences I guess, but this was harder to get into than his other short stories. Still a good story, though.
The short stories whet your appetite for the novels. The characters are both interesting and entertaining. You defintely look forward for the next book to come out.
Writing was good. Not sure it reached novella length. Not worth 2$; feel bit ripped off. Agree with prev reviews, it's one scene. That's it.
All of the Pax Arcana stories are compelling and well written, but this one is particularly haunting. Sliding reality, danger, and a feeling of having been through this before all mean a fast moving adventure for John Charming
This is a super short snippet of a scene where John Charming is in a house with a giant spidery lady. While interesting it seemed to start in the middle and was so short I really thought I missed something. It took me all of 10-15 minutes to read.
Seemed more like it should be a deleted scene on the author website more than calling it a novella and charging $1.99 for it.
This isn't a story; it's a single scene that takes 15 minutes to read. John hallucinates about his childhood while fighting a monster that spits LSD style venom. It's the sort of thing most authors offer as a free read on their web site. Not worth the $1.99 price tag.
